On General Hospital, Sonny is shocked — shocked, we tell you! — that Jax may have committed a crime. Now, the shock may have been warranted if the shocked person was… uh… Aiden? Scout? They’re both young enough not to know yet how Port Charles is a hot-bed of criminality and sin.
Any adult who has spent any amount of time there has to know by now to roll with the punches and assume a crime is being committed before and after every commercial break.
But was it particularly hypocritical of Sonny (Maurice Benard) — mumbling mob boss — to express a toddler-level of shock and condemnation at the possibility? How almost 9,000 fans felt about it:
It wasn’t even close, as 95% of General Hospital fans voted yes while laughing the entire time. Sonny — Sonny! — thinks it’s unacceptable that Jax (Ingo Rademacher) took a swerve from the straight and narrow?
The Sonny who literally lives a life of crime? The Sonny who we first met as the owner of a nightclub where he drugged underaged girls, made them strip, and slept with them? The Sonny who hung AJ (Sean Kanan) on a meat-hook to make him sign away his paternal rights to Michael (Chad Duell)?
The Sonny for whom Jason (Steve Burton) works as a hitman? What do people think Jason hits? Homeruns? The deck? Parade? Jason kills people. On Sonny’s orders. We’re almost certain that’s a crime. Even in Port Charles.
And then there’s the 5% of the audience who’s on Sonny’s side all the way. Do as I say, not as I do is a lifestyle choice.
Besides, when Sonny commits a crime, there is a very, very good reason for it. He has to protect his family. Including the newborn Donna. (Did you know her name was Donna?)
When other people commit crimes, they’re motivated by… something else. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
