When lawyer Martin Grey popped up on General Hospital, fans did a double-take. And not just because of his allegedly Southern accent, which seems to come and go not only from episode to episode, not even from scene to scene, but sometimes from sentence to sentence.
Twins Not New For General Hospital
General Hospital’s Anna (Finola Hughes) has a twin sister, Alex (also Finola Hughes), who first appeared on All My Children. That means GH and AMC take place in the same universe (One Life To Live, too). Which is why fans had every right to be suspicious when Martin Grey looked a bit too much like one Pine Valley Tad Martin.
Sure, they’re played by the same actor – Michael E. Knight – but is there more to it than that? Do viewers want there to be? How over 3,000 voted:
Stick To the Martin Plan
It was a squeaker, but 51% of you eked out a victory for no, keep Martin Grey Martin Grey – not Tad Martin. There would be no logical way it could work. Tad wasn’t a lawyer. He never even went to college. (His big professional triumph was as a shampoo boy who slept with both Marian and her daughter, Liza.)
Sure, he’s had amnesia and thought he was someone else before. (Who remembers Ted Orsini?) But that didn’t come with a legal education – and an accident. If you want Martin to have a connection to Pine Valley, have him be a long-lost relative of Edmund Grey – how’s that?
Change of Plans
Then again, an almost equal 49% loves the idea. It would be like having a little piece of Pine Valley back – the way Nora (Hillary B. Smith) brings a taste of Llanview with each visit. And if Tad is in Port Charles, then how about Dixie (Cady McClain, real-life wife of Jon Lindstrom AKA Kevin/Ryan)? Brooke (Julia Barr)? The entire Martin family?
