General Hospital News: Vinessa Antoine Gets The Best Birthday Present

When Vinessa Antoine left General Hospital, she did it because she landed a brand-new Canadian primetime series called Diggstown. While she would have been willing to do both shows, that wasn’t in the cards. However, her leap of faith paid off because Diggstown has just been renewed for its third season.

To make this renewal even more special, the news came this past Wednesday when the actress turned 37. “Whoa…this birthday is getting better and better…Get ready for season 3 of Diggstown baby!! Ayeeeeee!” she posted on Instagram along with a photo of her from Diggstown.

What makes this series so landmark is the fact that it cast Antoine as the first black female lead in a Canadian television series. Antoine was born in Toronto, Canada so filming Diggstown takes her home.

On the show, Antoine plays Marcie Diggs, a high-powered attorney who decides to change her career and her life by taking a job with legal aide after her aunt takes her own life. The second season of Diggstown just premiered this spring, but now we know a third season is coming, as well.

“Marcie Diggs is a woman struggling with the messy in her own life,” Antoine told The Toronto Star in 2019. “There are issues of guilt and family, and the question of whether the justice system actually works in Canada. That will be a question that will continue to plague her. She is constantly asking if she’s doing the right thing.”

Off-screen, Antoine enjoys life with her two kids and is romantically linked to former GH co-star, Anthony Montgomery (Andre). General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
