General Hospital star Michael Easton recently made a deal with his loyal Facebook followers. If they donated to America’s Health Care Workers and food banks, he’d answer fans’ burning questions!
Michael Easton Responds
Touched by the outpouring of humanity, the Daytime Emmy-nominated Easton, who plays Dr. Hamilton Finn on GH, not only matched his devotees’ donations (who gave to such organizations as Direct Relief and Harvest), but he made good on his word and answered fans inquiries on his Facebook page with both poignancy and deadpan humor. Here’s a sampling of the questions he received — and his answers. Was yours one of the ones chosen? Read on to find out!
What has been the most challenging aspect of playing Dr. Hamilton Finn?
Keeping the stethoscope around my neck. Constantly getting upstaged by a lizard.
You’ve had such an amazing career and played so many diverse characters. Which one was your favorite?
I’ve honestly enjoyed every one of them (well, maybe not one). Finn is lovely and strange and challenging. I loved this quirky character on a FOX show called VR5 named Duncan. Ally McBeal was a joy because David Kelley’s writing was so brilliant. McBain [from One Life to Live] was a special time in my life. 413 Hope Street was a dream because of the amazing cast and the writing.
Caleb [from Port Charles] was the most fun because there were no boundaries. I could go on and on, but the underlying theme would be I have been very fortunate in my career and I am eternally grateful.
Can you play Scrooge every year [on General Hospital]?
Yes, but next year Scrooge will be updated and out for revenge. Something like, “Scrooge McWick” …this time it’s personal.
Do you like playing a character that is more like you by showing a side that people rarely see or playing against type and bringing out aspects to your personality that make you look more closely at yourself?
It’s a lovely question. I only wish my answer was as thoughtful. I like characters that take me out of my comfort zone. That force me [to] take risks and make me not afraid of failing.
