Last week marked the end of General Hospital’s groundbreaking Alzheimer’s story and there wasn’t a dry eye on the set or with the audience at home as Sonny said a tearful goodbye to his father.

Maurice Benard Has A Message

Now Maurice Benard has a message for Max Gail via a video posted to Instagram. “I just want to say to Max that I love him like a dad. He’s an incredible actor and I’m going to miss him like there’s no tomorrow.”

Gail appears with him in the video and Benard gives him his chance to speak. “There no tomorrow?” Gail joked. He then said to Benard, “You told me we were going to have fun.” And Benard concurred that he sure did.

Both actors won Daytime Emmys for playing out this story in 2019 and deservedly so as they played a father and son with years of baggage behind them who finally found peace with one another during Mike’s last two years on Earth. When Sonny discovered Mike indeed bought him the bicycle he had promised him as a boy, it touched all of us.

Benard also shared these words alongside his video: “I think it’s once every decade you find an actor, who changes the landscape. That is Max Gail. Thank you Max for always challenging me and making me a better actor. Go out and change the world!!!”

When Alicia Leigh Willis appeared as the late Courtney to escort her father to heaven, it became the perfect topper to this emotional and well-done storyline. Bravo to the powers-that-be for that emotional and wonderful surprise. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
