General Hospital and Lisa LoCicero had us all in tears this week when Olivia was right outside Dante’s room in Geneva and she knew he refused to see her.

Lisa LoCicero On Playing A Mom

She leaned against the door and poured her heart out as a mother not knowing Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) was right there with his ear to the door in tears. These heartbreaking scenes will be remembered for a long time to come and LoCicero took to Twitter to let us know what she was feeling when those scenes were taped.

“Well… I guess when the Twitter responses to me crying are making me cry… it’s worth attempting my very first THREAD… You’ll never hear me talk about acting process..because I generally think it’s cheesy and should be private…but I feel the need to express some gratitude,” she tweeted. “Maybe it’s the crazy times..first off I never ever confuse viewers responses to my character with a response to ME… there’s a certain alchemy to seeing a character/story told up on a screen that is magic!

“The characters we play come to embody certain archetypes that resonate with different viewers for different reasons…I know this because I grew up adoring soaps and their stories and clinging to characters like a lifeline in a frequently awkward childhood…for people who resonate with Olivia, it’s not about me but resonating with her as an archetype of MOTHER.

“It’s a powerful thing, maybe the most powerful energy in the world, and when I read that beautiful speech that the writers gifted me with…I was struck by how often I hear from viewers on Twitter or at events..or just people I know who are so desperately hungry to hear the words Olivia said to her beloved child…many people, sadly, will never hear them… some mothers can’t say them.

“But to hear SOME archetypal mother say the words “I love you… JUST THE WAY YOU ARE”.. to be for a moment, the person saying those words… to whoever needs to hear them… was such a pure joy…You’re lovable, just the way you are…Thanks for all your kind words and for letting me in your house.”

Soap Hub thanks LoCicero for letting us feel what mothers feel right along with her in poignant scenes that reminded us what soaps are all about. You can click on the actress’s Twitter thread below. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
