General Hospital News: Emma Samms Chronicles Her Months-Long COVID Hell

Beloved General Hospital veteran Emma Samms tested positive for COVID-19 back in March when the pandemic first became a fear for the world. She thankfully survived this potentially-deadly virus, but like many others, is finding it hard to completely recover even months later.

Emma Samms: Long-Term COVID Effects

“I improve slightly, have [some] good days and assume I am on the road to recovery only to go right back to feeling horrendous,” the actress has said, according to UK’s Daily Mail.

European doctors have begun describing this as “Long COVID”, meaning people can have symptoms that last for months (or longer; the disease hasn’t been around to track people’s longer-term problems). Samms said simple tasks like gardening can leave her feeling absolutely exhausted. It’s been described as similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Symptoms include joint pain and difficulty breathing.

Samms has been living in England, but many GH fans were hoping to see her back in Port Charles. While Holly is presumed dead, Robert (Tristan Rogers) is not so sure that’s true and is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery and hopefully find Holly.

This was supposed to kick off a big adventure storyline that now may need to be put on hold, considering Samms’s health issues.

Samms first came to daytime fame in the early 80s when she was hired as a new love interest for Tony Geary’s Luke after Laura (Genie Francis) was presumed dead. However, she ended up marrying Robert for immigration purposes and the pair fell in love. Samms has appeared in Port Charles off and on for the last few decades, with her last bringing Holly on our screens in 2015.
