As COVID-19 continues to kill approximately 1,000 Americans each day, another disaster is ravaging the West Coast. States such as Oregon, Washington State, and especially California. General Hospital star Briana Nicole Henry reflected on these fires, as well as the state of the planet at this moment.

Briana Nicole Henry Asks Us To Think

“I am glad I will not be young in a future without wilderness,” Henry posted to Instagram. “I am saddened that this could be a reality for the kids that will be born into this world in the next few decades.”

On Wednesday, Californians in the Bay Area woke up to a sight they have never seen before — an orange world. The fires have burned so much through the area that they’ve turned the air people breathe orange with ash, making it look like there’s snow on the trees. Henry is stunned by the amount of land that has been lost.

“I can’t believe over 2 million acres of land has been completely devastated by these California fires. All the families and animals displaced and terrified. The firefighters who have relentlessly been fighting and risking their health and bodies. It’s forcing me to examine my part in all of this destruction.

“It’s easy to not take responsibility for the state of our planet, but it’s delusional. The decisions each of us make every day, including what we eat, products we buy, lives we disregard for profit and who we continue to vote into office, has and will continue to have a direct impact on our planet,” Briana Nicole Henry continued. “I hope you too are examining your part in our current circumstances. How will you challenge yourself to be better? Not with your words, but with your actions. Sending all my love to those affected by the fires.” General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC.
