On Wednesday’s General Hospital, Sonny gave Mike a dream-come-true type of day by taking him out of his memory care center for a day at the races. Seeing a horse in the stables before the first race brought Mike to life during what seem to be his last days.
Horsing Around At General Hospital
It was also a little surprising for fans to see a horse on the General Hospital set, a place where even people are scarce of late due to safety precautions during the coronavirus pandemic. It’s hard enough shooting regular scenes, but it looks like adding an animal to the mix didn’t make things much harder.
GH took us on a mini-tour behind the scenes with Pal, the horse Mike took such a liking to. Of course, a professional also had to be on-set to make the scenes go smooth, so trainer Alison Smith was on hand to make sure Pal interacted with Maurice Benard, Max Gail, and Laura Wright in a natural and safe way.
Fans absolutely loved these scenes as they gave all the feels. Mike is suffering from end-stage Alzheimer’s and he and Sonny are coming to terms with the life he led and the broken relationship father and son had for years.
Mike’s affinity for horse racing, and in turn, gambling took him away from his wife and son. Sonny’s mom, Adella, ended up marrying abusive cop Deke, changing his life forever. Sonny always wondered if Mike had stuck around, would he have chosen this life of organized crime.
In the behind-the-scenes photos GH tweeted, we can see the actors in masks as they rehearse, as well as trainer Smith. Everyone on set must be in a mask at all times, except when taping, and performers are allowed to remove them. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
We’d like to introduce you to today’s very special guest star, Pal. He’s seen here with one of his trainers, Alison Smith. #BehindTheScenes #GH #GeneralHospital pic.twitter.com/rVXcZJLH8P
