All My Children’s siblings Tad and Jenny together again? Not exactly. But General Hospital has cast Emmy-winning actress Kim Delaney in an unnamed role. She’s best known to soap fans for her run as beloved but doomed heroine Jenny Gardner Nelson on AMC from 1981-84.
Kim Delaney Joins General Hospital
Deadline broke the story that GH has tapped Delaney to play an unnamed role on the ABC soap and that she is scheduled to start taping tomorrow. The news outlet speculated that Delaney might be doing some sort of reprisal but if that happens, it’ll be as a ghost.
AMC fans recall Jenny’s untimely death in 1984 when the newlywed was riding a jet ski rigged to explode, thanks to Jenny’s ex-fiancé Tony Barclay (Brett Barrett), who was trying to kill Jenny’s new husband Greg (Lawrence Lau).
Long before it became popular for former daytime stars who had found success in nighttime to visit their former stomping grounds, Delaney reprised Jenny in 1994 when Tad (Michael E. Knight) hovered between life and death. Tad was visited by important people from his life who had passed on, including his sister Jenny, Nola (Barbara Rush), Ray (Gil Rogers), and Jesse (Darnell Williams). Still, Jesse turned out not to be dead after all, a reminder in soaps that anything can happen!
It’s possible that Delaney will share screentime with Knight’s GH character Martin Gray. (If so, we can’t imagine the two performers not giving a subtle nod to their daytime past, given the fondness fans have for both the actors and the characters they played on AMC.)
Since exiting daytime, Delaney went on to be a series regular in numerous series including Army Wives, Tour of Duty as Alex Devlin, and NYPD BLUE on which she played Diane Russell (the role Delaney won an Emmy for playing in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1997). The actress also starred as Kathleen Maguire on Philly. She was Megan Donnor on CSI: Miami and Rebecca Bloom on The O.C. More recently, Delaney played Abigail on The Oath.
Stay tuned for more details on who Delaney will be playing and when she’ll air. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
