General Hospital has plenty of violence, plenty of baby swapping, and plenty of revenge. But what is it missing that fans would like to see? We polled over 3,000 fans, and this is what they told us:
A winning 36% are hankering for more romance. Love is what we watch soaps for, the kind of love that sweeps you off your feet, sprinkles rose petals across your bed, and comes back from the dead – more than once if it has to. Port Charles hasn’t exactly been a lovely place lately.
Liz (Rebecca Herbst) is mourning Franco (Roger Howarth), Carly (Laura Wright) is mourning Sonny (Maurice Benard), Jason (Steve Burton) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) are dunzo, as are Finn (Michael Easton) and Anna (Finola Hughes), while Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) is lying to Chase (Josh Swickard). Where’s the love?
Then again, 26% are under the impression that there is nothing that GH is missing. It is perfect the way it is. Love is also about the longing and the wanting. And the people of Port Charles are constantly doing that.
Lighten up, 20% of the audience pleads. Everything is so dark and dreary. An 18-year-old kid has just been arrested for attempted murder, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) is terrified of her baby daddy, and there’s a mob war a-brewing. We used to be able to laugh at the wacky Quartermaines, the quippy Spencers, and at Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) attempting to speak his version of English. Now everybody is crying. And so are we.
Only 18% are asking for more family scenes – and we don’t mean more switched babies, which includes what Maxie and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) are planning, the neverending Wiley saga, or Chase’s paternity. We mean the families we actually care about. Where the heck are Felicia (Kristina Wagner) and Mac (John J. York), to start? General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC.
