Monday’s General Hospital episode to celebrated Sonny and Carly welcoming their new daughter, Donna, into the world — the little fighter has already won their hearts — and her name has warmed our own.
General Hospital Pays Tribute
That’s because it was obvious the show named her in honor of their beloved late makeup artist, Donna Messina Armogida, who passed away back in December of 2018 — even before Sonny and Carly explained it to the kids. Her death left a hole in the hearts of the GH cast, as tributes came pouring in.
As Maurice Benard had Sonny recall “Donna Messina” from the “old neighborhood,” it was obvious he wasn’t acting, as the still-grieving actor paid tribute to his dear friend — with all of her real attributes. Everything he said seemed to coincide with tributes made by him and other actors nearly a year ago.
“Sometimes you meet someone in life you just connect with and then, unfortunately, life just takes that person away,” shared Benard at the time. “And no matter how much your heart breaks you want to remember the good times.
“My best friend my sister Donna used 2 hate taking pictures. I used to have to grab her and hold her. And we would and laugh and laugh. I will never forget this memory and I will never forget what you meant in my life.”
Her Name Lives On
When Carly (Laura Wright) first became pregnant, it seemed odd to longtime fans. These two have already had several children while other couples (namely Friz — Franco and Liz) had fan bases who were dying for their faves to have a baby.
But considering how close Benard was to his dear friend, it suddenly feels very right that they were the ones chosen to have a child to name after her. It was a beautiful, touching surprise. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
