Genie Francis, who exited Port Charles as Laura Collins in August to take a late summer break, is back on set taping scenes as the town’s mayor. She’ll begin airing sometime this month.

Meanwhile, one of her TV brothers will be returning to the scene, this week. Jeff Kober is set to make another appearance as incarcerated drug lord Cyrus Renault.

The mystery man being played by Robert Gossett, the guy watching Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Portia (Brooke Kerr), finally has a name: Marshall. Gossett previously played Officer Ed Jenkins on Santa Barbara, lawyer Woody Stumper on Passions, and Dan Szymborski on Young and the Restless.

General Hospital History

GH made its debut in 1963 and is the second longest-running daytime soap opera in American history. The longest-running soap is Guiding Light. While it’s not the longest-running serial, General Hospital is the longest-running soap opera currently on air.

The daytime drama outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households! From legendary Laura’s (Genie Francis) many decades on and off and back on as the show’s leading heroine to Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) exploits to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his mobster activities, GH certainly knows how to please its viewers.

Current Soap Operas

It is one of four soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include Days of our Lives (DOOL), The Young and the Restless (YR), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
