Who’s coming and who’s going from General Hospital (GH)?
Are any of your favorite performers from yesteryear returning to the daytime drama, this week, or in the not too far off future? Have any new actors or actresses been cast on the show in contract, recurring, or day player roles? Are any well-remembered or beloved stars from other soaps, past or present, about to join the General Hospital fold in surprise new parts? Here’s the latest casting news from the ABC soap.
The week of August 16, 2021
It’s official. Cameron Mathison will be playing Drew Cain, Jason’s (Steve Burton) twin brother and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) ex-husband, when he debuts on General Hospital this week. The actor is best known to daytime audiences for his portrayal of Ryan Lavery on All My Children. The role of Drew was originated by Billy Miller in 2014. The character was presumed dead in a plane crash in 2019.
The Nanny’s Charles Shaughnessy is joining General Hospital in a contract role set to premiere in September. There’s no word as to who he’ll be playing, but Shaughnessy previously portrayed Holly’s (Emma Samms) cousin, Alistair Durban, on the soap back in 1984.
The actor also held down the roles of Shane and Drew Donovan on Days of our Lives.
Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) daughter Donna has been aged. Twins Ella and Emma Hulen, who shared the duties of baby Donna, have been replaced by Ava Rose.
Now you see her. Now you don’t. Gigi Bermingham has quickly wrapped up her gig as Naomi Berlin, Hayden’s (Rebecca Budig) mother. The character was killed off the soap. Please note that air dates may be subject to change.
GH made its debut in 1963 and is the second longest-running daytime soap opera in American history. The longest-running soap is Guiding Light. While it’s not the longest-running serial, General Hospital is the longest-running soap opera currently on air.
The daytime drama outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households! From legendary Laura’s (Genie Francis) four decades on and off and back on as the show’s leading heroine to Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) exploits to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his mobster activities, GH certainly knows how to please their viewers.
It is one of four soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include Days of our Lives (DOOL), The Young and the Restless (YR), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
