2025 was quite a year on General Hospital, with many standout performances. The nominations for the 53rd Daytime Emmy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, July 14th. And these are just a few that we believe deserve a nod.

Key Takeaways

  • Jane Elliot’s emotion for Monica was as real as it gets.
  • Giovanni Mazza blew us away with his powerhouse performance at the Nurse’s Ball.
  • Eden McCoy made a seamless transition to a more adult Joss.
  • Willow’s breakdown blew us away.

Jane Elliot As Tracy Quartermaine

Leslie Charleson’s death left the GH cast and its fans reeling, but Monica’s funeral brought out the ugly cries. Jane Elliot played the grieving sister-in-law to perfection. Tracy and Monica had a complicated relationship, to say the least. They may have once hated each other, but formed a strong bond in later years. They became as close as sisters.

Elliot’s performance as a devastated Tracy was raw and powerful. The scenes between her and Jason (shout-out to Steve Burton) showed real grief and complicated feelings. They both played their parts to perfection.

Elliot’s scenes went beyond the funeral, with Ronnie (Erika Slezak) arriving as Monica’s long-lost sister. Tracy had to fight to discover the truth and the real will, but she never wavered. She won in the end for Monica, and the house is now hers because Monica gave it to her!

Elliot won the Daytime Emmy in 1981 and was nominated in 1989, 1993, and 2014. It is time for another win.

Giovanni Mazza As Gio Palmieri

The truth was a long time coming, but when it finally came out, Giovanni Mazza gave a powerhouse performance as Gio.

Gio learned that Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) were his birth parents by overhearing a conversation between Lulu (Alexa Havins) and Lois (Rena Sofer). His shocked reaction felt real.

Mazza showed his acting chops when Gio went on stage at the Nurse’s Ball, announced the truth to everyone, and smashed his beloved violin. He went on to have an emotional conversation with Emma (Braedyn Bruner), where he displayed grief, anger, and confusion all rolled into one.

This young actor has a bright future and deserves his first Emmy nomination.

Eden McCoy As Josslyn Jacks

Eden McCoy has grown up in Port Charles and has become one of GH’s brightest stars. She proved her fantastic acting ability as a teen with her emotional scenes after Oscar’s (Garren Stitt) death, but she is all grown up now.

2025 saw a major change for Josslyn. Cyrus (Jeff Kober) murdered her boyfriend, Dex (Evan Hofer), and her devastation felt real (why must all her boyfriends die?). Her subsequent need for revenge was new to Joss, and this was when her character shifted. With a little help from Jack (Chris McKenna), she shot Cyrus and joined the WSB.

The actress flawlessly morphed Josslyn from college student to super-spy, and the adult version of her character has endless possibilities.

McCoy won the Emmy for Outstanding Younger Performer in 2023 and was nominated in 2019 and 2020.

Katelyn MacMullen

Willow has become quite the troublesome character, and 2025 was a major year. There was a long, drawn-out custody battle with Michael for their children. When Willow lost, Katelyn MacMullen’s breakdown was the performance no one saw coming.

Her shock and confusion after the judge’s verdict were realistic because Willow was sure she would win. She couldn’t fathom that she would not be able to see her children. It was a turning point for the character, and MacMullen played it perfectly.

Willow’s downfall continued when she learned that Nina (Cynthia Watros) was sleeping with Drew (Cameron Mathison) right before she walked down the aisle. Showing up at Carly’s (Laura Wright) house wearing her wedding dress and begging to see her children is a scene that alone deserves an Emmy.

MacMullen earned two consecutive Emmy nominations in 2020 and 2021.
