She stared as Samantha McCall on General Hospital since 2003 but just how much do you know about Kelly Monaco? Below are five fast facts about this talented Emmy-nominated actress who also spent three years on GH sister series Port Charles.
One Big Family
Monaco is the quintessential middle child whose flanked by two older and two younger sisters. That’s right, folks, Monaco is one of FIVE siblings! Her two older sisters are Christine and Marissa while Carmina and Amber are the two youngest.
Assets
Monaco, who aspired to enter the intensely competitive modeling arena, decided to make her naturally-sculptured bodywork for her. She had photos taken and personally submitted them to Playboy magazine who not only published them but who named Monaco the Playmate of the Month for April 1997.
Play What You Know
It’s little ironic that Monaco spent her post-high school years working as a lifeguard considering that her first TV roles would be on the hit series Baywatch. She had two cameo appearances as an extra and later played the role of Susan in at least two episodes. Monaco also doubled for Carmen Electra in many episodes because Electra could not swim.
Awakening
In February of 2009, Monaco debuted in Jerry Mitchell’s bawdy burlesque review Peepshow. The naughty comedy told the story of Bo Peep who discovers her sexuality throughout the show. The role allowed Monaco to showcase her dancing and acting talents and also hone her comedy skills.
One of Monaco’s co-stars was Melanie Brown, a fellow Dancing With the Stars contestant. Monaco stayed with the show for four months until her contract expired. She was replaced by Holly Madison, the girlfriend of Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner.
Medical Intervention
Monaco might be a natural athlete who has indulged in sports such as soccer, track, and softball since her high school days but such strenuous physical activity has taken its toll on the actress’s body.
