Mark Lawson is best known for starring as Brody Lovett on One Life to Live, but he currently plays Dustin Phillip on General Hospital. Along with his work on soaps, Lawson has also appeared on shows such as Cold Case and Animal Kingdom.
Lawson is a trained actor who went to years of school in order to study theater, but the star has other passions outside of acting. From where he was raised to his love of fitness, here are five fast facts you need to know about the actor.
In The Beginning…
Lawson was born on December 17 and grew up in Bristol, Virginia. He ended up graduating from the Boston Conservatory of Music and got his degree in musical theater. He then attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He moved to Los Angeles after graduating to pursue acting full-time.
Number 4 Is The Charm
Lawson had been living in Los Angeles for five years pursuing acting and told himself he’d go on 10 more auditions before calling it quits. In March 2008, he read for the role of Brody on One Life to Live and got the part! This was audition number four.
Close To His Heart
While working on OLTL, because he was playing a former Navy SEAL, Lawson would carry two Purple Heart challenge coins that his cousin’s husband received after serving in both Iraq and Mogadishu.
Retired Undefeated
Back in 1999, Mark Lawson fought in just one semi-pro Mixed Martial Arts fight. He ended up retiring after the fight, which he won, so he’ll always be able to say he retired with an undefeated record!
Business On The Side
Along with his acting, Lawson is very passionate about fitness. He works as a personal trainer and runs a gym called Forge, which focuses on strength and conditioning. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
