Following published reports that Emme Rylan was leaving General Hospital and her role as Lulu Spencer Falconeri, the actress has posted a video to social media.
Emme Rylan Addresses Rumors
While not confirming or denying her time as Lulu is, for now, over, Rylan has informed her followers that she’s literally hitting the road.
Daytime Confidential was first to report the rumor that Rylan was leaving the ABC serial. And while Rylan isn’t confirming she’s exiting Port Charles, she does say she’s going on the road to see the country, which would make taping at GH prohibitive.
“I am not in a position to be able to comment on the work stuff,” Rylan stated in one of her Instagram stories, “so, in terms of General Hospital, I am going to keep that topic quiet. All you need to know is that I love everyone there, we all love each other, I’m okay, and all of your messages of love are amazing — I love you guys so much — but I just can’t talk about it.
“But there is something I can talk about with you guys,” the actress continues. “My landlord sold the house we’ve been living in. We’ve been desperately house-hunting. We haven’t been able to find anything. COVID has made everything so much more complicated. We, meaning my family and I, have decided to do something completely insane. I have never done anything like this in my entire adult life. We are currently packing up our entire house and putting it in a pod and putting it in storage here in Los Angeles and with only our suitcases, we are going to go on a COIVD-safe epic road trip.”
Rylan says she’s inviting her followers to join her on this escapade, virtually, that is. “If you’re bored at home and would like to watch a hot mess of one car, three kids, two cats, and two dogs while we’re wearing masks and not interacting with anyone, if you want to watch that show, that will be streaming daily,” Rylan says. “I will save our entire adventures in one of those highlight folders.”
Again, without confirming a GH exit, Rylan notes she’s been working for quite some time without a break. “I have been working every single day on a soap opera since [2006],” the actress says. “I have only been in New York and L.A. I have never explored life outside of this bubble.” As her children are distance-learning, there are no travel restrictions related to school. “[They’ll have] consistency with their teachers and friends. They’re very excited.”
One problem ahead of the crafty mom is going to put all her yarn? “I have a lot of boxes of yarn,” she says. “It’s really bad. It might need its own pod.” Rylan adds that she’s going to be, for now, shuttering her Etsy shop, but she promises to fulfill any and all current orders over the next few days. “Once we hit the road, I’m putting the store on hold.”
Rylan (who used to go by Marcy Rylan) began her soap opera career on Guiding Light as Lizzie Spaulding in 2006 and remained with that show until its 2009 finale. CBS didn’t let the actress get away, casting her next as Abby Newman, the role previously played by Haley Erin (ex-Kiki, GH) on The Young and the Restless.
After Julie Berman exited the role of Lulu, Rylan, who had been dropped to recurring on YR, hopped over to GH, taking on the legendary role of Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura’s (Genie Francis) daughter. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
