Fans have been wondering where Laura has been on General Hospital. Soap Hub gave the actress’s fans a hint that she was on her way back to Port Charles and now that is turning into a reality!
Welcome Back, Genie Francis
Francis shared in a tweet that a trip she’d made to the east coast was wrapping up. “Bye bye New England! So happy to have had a bit of fall,” the Daytime Emmy winner posted.
She added the hashtag #GH, which gave fans a hint that she’d be making her way back on-screen as Mayor Laura Webber Collins. The newest issue of Soap Opera Digest, dated November 9, 2020, reveals that she will indeed be back on screen next month.
Francis made her GH debut in 1977. The soap thrust her onto the front-burner and the perils of teen Laura drew in millions, thanks to Francis’s compelling performances and storylines crafted by late, great head writer Douglas Marland.
Laura had an affair with David Hamilton (Gerry Ayres), who was a friend of her adopted father Rick Webber (Michael Gregory, Chris Robinson). After accidentally causing his death, Laura ran away to New York. Her loved ones followed her and she was safely returned to Port Charles.
But more trouble was ahead! Then-student nurse Bobbie Spencer (Jaclyn Zeman) was jealous of Scotty Baldwin‘s (Kin Shriner) affections towards Laura and tried to trick Laura into doing things that would violate her parole, shipping her off to reform school!
Bobbie enlisted the aid of her brother Luke (Anthony Geary) to hurt Laura, but he quickly fell for the girl. Laura, in turn, found Luke fascinating. The couple emerged as daytime’s most popular. They left Port Charles in 1983, returning for one stint in 1984, and then for a longer stay in 1993.
Eventually Laura and Luke divorced. When Luke moved away, he left a letter for Laura, but viewers have never learned the note’s specific contents. She later fell in love with Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) and is now mayor of Port Charles. Her latest nemesis is Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), who has shown quite an interest in Laura. No word on Francis’s return air date so don’t miss a day! General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
