Charles Shaughnessy, best known to soap fans as Shane Donovan on Days of our Lives, is reportedly checking into General Hospital. It’s a mystery as to who the DAYS ISA agent will be playing but the actor does have a history with the ABC medical drama.
Charles Shaughnessy To General Hospital
Soap Opera Digest first reported that Shaughnessy is bound for Port Charles in a contract role. Different online reports state different timing but it could be early…or late fall.
Prior to landing his role as Shane on DAYS in 1984, Shaughnessy played the part of Alistair, Holly Sutton’s (Emma Samms) cousin. While viewers know that Holly is still alive and is being held against her will, her loved ones believe that she’s dead. Tristan Rogers (Scorpio) recently told Soap Hub that viewers are hoping she’ll be rescued.
After a brief stint as Alistair, Shaughnessy moved over to Salem, taking on the role of intrepid secret agent Shane Donovan, who was paired with Pasty Pease’s Kimberly Brady. The duo emerged as one of the show’s most popular couples as Shane and Kim battled his unbalanced ex-wife Emma Donovan (Jane Windsor), Kim being blind, the couple thinking (thanks to Emma) that Victor Kiraikis (John Aniston) had fathered their son Andrew, and so much more.
Holly Sutton’s Cousin Alistair
It’s possible that Shaughnessy could be playing a new role on GH, however, the show is known for reaching back into its past, bringing back characters to have them help tell today’s storylines. Thaao Penghlis briefly played Victor Cassadine in 1981 on GH and then he joined the cast of DAYS as both Tony DiMera and later, Andre DiMera. Decades later, in 2016, GH brought Penghlis back as Victor, so there is precedent for this if Shaughnessy is reprising Alistair.
Soap Hub will bring additional details on Shaughnessy’s casting as soon as they become available. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
