Once upon a time, General Hospital’s Hamilton Finn would poke fun at his brother Harrison Chase for dating “the schoolteacher” — that sweet and oh-so-wonderful young woman who created a new identity for herself when she escaped a cult and changed her name from Callie Miller to Willow Tait. Now, that Willow seems to be dead and buried like her twin sister, Nelle Benson (if Nelle is even really dead).
The lovely weeping Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) who hurt so much when she gave her baby up for adoption and then learned more than a year later he died soon after is now the most un-self-aware character on soaps, aside from her pseudo-mother-in-law Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright).
Sanctimonious and shrill, she somehow cannot see that the family whose wealth seems so appealing is no better, if not worse, than Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), the woman Willow thinks will harm her precious Wiley and turn him into another Nelle. Little does Willow know that Nina is her mother and she’s turning into another Nelle all on her own.
All we see now is an uptight, angry, bitter woman who looks down on everyone else and can’t forgive anyone for their mistakes — unless their last name is Corinthos. That’s essentially what happens when you place your life into the hands of Carly and her son. You lose your sense of self and your free will while believing you can do no wrong because it’s everyone else who has wronged you.
Right now, Willow truly believes that Nina is the devil incarnate, but Carly can’t keep the truth hidden forever and she is going to find out (hopefully sooner rather than later) that Nina is her biological mother, which will open up a whole new story arc for Willow.
Will she finally see the error of her ways with Carly and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) when she eventually learns to accept Nina and gets to know her? Nina spent 20 years in a coma and had two children stolen from her. Willow knows a thing or two about being blindsided and losing a child. She also knows what it’s like to grow up with a ‘mother’ that seemed to only care for herself. Maybe then we will get the Willow back that we used to love.
