On General Hospital, things just keep going from bad to worse for Sonny in the aftermath of the attack on Sidwell. Justine has become the latest person to turn her back on him and accuse Sonny of lying, even though he did exactly what she asked of him.
Key Takeaways
- Justine put Sonny in the hot seat.
- Sonny told her the truth and kept his promise.
- The former mob boss can’t escape his reputation.
The Confrontation Justine Needed but Didn’t Hear
After Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) basically cut him out of his life and Gio (Giovanni Mazza) saw a different side of his grandfather, Sonny (Maurice Benard) was dealt another blow. Justine (Nazneen Contractor) came in hot at the apartment above Charlie’s Pub looking for answers.
Sonny was brutally honest with Justine, just like he was with Gio and Dante. Justine didn’t see it that way, though. Everything Sonny said, she found a way to throw back in his face as if it were something a liar would say.
In the end, Justine insisted Sonny was lying to her in their sanctuary, where they were honest with each other. Sonny was heartbroken as he tried to defend himself, knowing that he never broke the promise he made to her.
The Bad Guy Reputation Can’t Be Escaped
One of the reasons that Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Ava’s (Maura West) framing job on Sonny works so well is because of his reputation. Sonny took the steps to change and make a new life.
Along with going legit, he ordered Sidwell (Carlo Rotta) to be looked after, not harmed, because he knew it would come back to bite him. There has been a real shift in Sonny the past couple of years, but especially the past few months.
Sonny’s no longer the trigger-happy getting revenge at any cost man. However, no one can seem to see that or get past his mob-boss ways, and that’s the problem.
There’s a huge irony in the fact that once Sonny attempts a shot at a different life, those who love him the most doubt him because of his past. It goes to show that no matter how good Sonny is, and no matter how much some people believe in the good in him, it only goes so far considering his history.
Again, this is why Ava and Drew’s plan works even better than they could have imagined.
