It’s easy to see why William Lipton has won both critical acclaim (he’s a Daytime Emmy nominee) and fan support (he’s a Sub Hub Award winner) for his portrayal of Cameron Webber. While you never forget Cameron’s a teen, Lipton brings emotional maturity to his role. For his performance as a young man who puts family first, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors for GH on Lipton.
Cameron wasn’t keen on the camping trip with Dr. Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton), Finn’s father Gregory Chase (Gregory Harrison), and his brothers Jake (Hudson West) and Aiden (Enzo De Angelis). He felt stuck and, in an ideal world, he’d be back in Port Charles helping his girlfriend Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and their pal Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) with the criminal charges the latter is facing. He told Finn that going on the camping excursion was a big mistake, setting the stage for some conflict between the young man and the doctor who professes to care about his mother.
Cameron vented to Finn that he wanted to be there for Trina, who’d been ruled against in her Title IX case. Gregory stepped in, offering to lend knowledge and advice to Cameron related to Trina‘s predicament. Cameron accepted the input and then, it was his turn to pass along words of wisdom. Cameron figured out that his brother Aiden feeling included would make his life feel less out of control — and Cameron thanked Finn for the role he’s playing in the lives of his family.
“You just want what’s best for me and my brothers because you care about my mom and you care about us,” Cameron informed Finn, displaying a maturity beyond his years. Cameron added that he feels the same fear and trepidation that his brothers are experiencing. We saw believable growth in Cameron in this lone episode. William Lipton took viewers on the journey by being believable — not the angsty pouty teen that is sometimes portrayed on TV by actors with less natural talent and appeal.
As this column has always been called ‘Performer’ of the Week and not ‘Actor,’ we’re happy to include Lipton’s singing as part of our praise. What’s a campfire without a sing-a-long? William Lipton lent his considerable singing talents to the episode, reminding GH fans he’s an all-around entertainer/performer.
