We eagerly anticipated meeting Martin’s ex-wives once the legal eagle referenced having four of them on General Hospital. Kassie DePaiva, reprising her role as Blair Cramer, did not disappoint as the Daytime Emmy-nominated actress delivered an entertaining turn as Marty’s ex-wife No. 3.
First, DePaiva got to get all the expository information out of the way as Blair and Tracy (Jane Elliot) laid out their goals and desires while sharing a table at the Metro Court’s restaurant. As fate would have it, Blair’s ex-husband Marty (Michael E. Knight) was also on the scene with Lucy. After Lucy and Tracy made their respective exits, Blair made her move, walking up to Martin (whom she not-so endearingly calls “Marty”) and whispered a greeting in his ear. “Hello, sweetheart,” Blair said as she gave her ex what appeared to be a friendly kiss.
Nobody does comic banter on daytime better than Knight so it was especially fun to watch DePaiva banter back and forth with the three-time Daytime Emmy-winner. Martin tried to reveal as little information as possible to his ex, claiming he didn’t even know the name of the woman with whom he’d been seated. “Lucy…Coe,” stated Blair, clinking her glass of wine up to whatever Marty was drinking. Score one for Blair.
We’re not sure how long Blair and Martin were married but it’s clear she knows her ex well enough to figure out when he’s trying to pull a fast one. These two were engaging in a verbal game of chess and Blair was a queen who was not going to be captured. Martin asked Blair what she was doing with Tracy. DePaiva had her character hold eye contact with Knight’s. Staring him down, Blair suggested, “You figure it out.”
Blair and Martin are at odds over the fact that Blair feels she gave her ex an idea that Lucy, a rival in the cosmetics world, has used to make money. Martin sees things differently. Coming from opposing sides on the issue sets the stage for DePaiva to keep tossing the ball back into her scene partner’s court.
Boardroom stories and stolen business idea tales on soap operas only work when there are personal stakes involved. There certainly are in this case. Blair did the Cramer women proud when she informed Martin he wasn’t going to win this time.
“I won’t hesitate to tell Lucy [Lynn Herring] and prove to her that you stole the Deceptor idea from me and you gave it to her,” Blair asserted. “Then, she’ll lose everything and then, being angry and broke, she’ll have no choice but to sue you and I will be her star witness.”
Blair suggested that Martin stop accepting the alimony she pays him and then, she’ll back off and Marty can still mostly walk away a winner. “You won’t lose Lucy and you won’t lose the rest of your money,” Blair noted. Having won this round, Blair did what winners do when they’re ahead — she made her departure.
“it’s so nice to see you,” Blair sweetly lied through her teeth as she gave her ex another kiss on her way out the door. Brava to Kassie DePaiva for bringing back to our screens Blair, a powerful woman who knows what she wants and how to get it.
