Drew became a polarizing character in General Hospital, and Cameron Mathison plays him masterfully. Drew’s political campaign was plagued with controversy, and it was the best and worst decision he ever made.

Why It’s a Good Thing

Drew entered his villain era during this time. It was the perfect opportunity for him to run for Congress. By this point, he was already shady and seedy. As he first dipped a toe in politics, he mourned the death of Congressman Larry McConkey (Sam McCurry). Drew considered him a mentor.

Unfortunately, he didn’t follow suit. Drew’s personal life dampened his political campaign. He was exposed for having an affair with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), and his relationship with his cousin Cody (Josh Kelly) also caused controversy. The two men ended up in a drunken bar fight. But Drew didn’t let that stop him from pursuing his political dreams.

He was determined to become the next congressman. He wanted to step into Larry’s shoes. There was just one problem: Drew was one of the most hated men in Port Charles. How would he secure the votes if he couldn’t gain anyone’s trust?

How It Could’ve Backfired

Ultimately, Drew’s political campaign nearly blew up in his face. Even GH fans were skeptical about him winning. Even though he’s a veteran and successful businessman, he still has a terrible track record. Drew has connections to the most wanted criminals in Port Charles.

There’s also his family drama and his own brushes with the law. Drew’s skeletons kept coming out of the closet. At first, it seemed like this could all ruin his political aspirations. He also had a messy dating life that included Nina (Cynthia Watros), Jordan (Tanisha Harper), and his ex-wife Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco).

Surprisingly, Drew’s mistakes didn’t cost him the win. His election became successful. Once Drew won the election, he celebrated with Nina, whom he considered a colleague he occasionally slept with.

Chaos Once Again

This political campaign had more ups and downs than real-life ones. Drew’s political career resulted in chaos. It was destroyed by Michael (Chad Duell) and Curtis (Donnell Turner) scheming against him. They purchased Drew’s stock and removed his nameplate.

Drew could face more turmoil in the future. However, it could lead to more exciting twists and turns in the future as Drew continues to deal with more family drama and romance. (Find out why Cameron Mathison is rooting for Drew and Willow on GH.)
