General Hospital finally confirmed the news viewers had been hoping for and quite likely suspected: Kelly Thiebaud’s return to the soap is as Britt Westbourne, the gutsy doctor she began playing in 2012 until the character was killed in 2023. That revelation is great news for GH and particularly Steve Burton, who’s been in dire need of a leading lady and an onscreen romance as Jason.
Who’s That Girl?
Any other scenario, like having Theibaud return as a long-lost twin or lookalike, would have been a total letdown. She was just too memorable as the feisty and fiery Britt, a polarizing character who viewers either loved to hate, just plain hated her, or eventually came to like a lot. Britt was one of a kind and completely unforgettable.
All of the momentum surrounding Theibaud’s comeback to the soap was generated by her formidable portrayal of Britt, and that’s who she absolutely had to be.
La Femme Familiar
Having Jason be the first person to catch a glimpse of Britt boarding a plane to Croatia was the perfect touch. It immediately reconnected the duo that fans began rooting for when the GH writers started pairing them in 2021. Before long, they had established a genuine friendship, realizing they could be their true selves with each other.
Jason supported Britt through her diagnosis with Huntington’s disease, and, in the process, they developed into a bona fide albeit short-lived couple. That is because Jason was soon “killed off” in an explosion, and their romance was abruptly cut short.

The Second Time Around
Eventually, Britt was “killed off” too, a victim of Heather Webber’s killing spree, and it appeared that the once-promising Britt-Jason coupling was forever done. But now that both characters are alive and well, their romance can not only be resurrected but finally played to its fullest.
The timing couldn’t be better for Jason, who’s had absolutely no female companionship since returning to Port Charles. And with his longtime soulmate Sam (Kelly Monaco) dead and buried, Jason’s heart is ready to move on.
Assuming Britt is also unattached—and, heck, even if she isn’t—fans finally have a chance to get the full-fledged Britt-Jason coupling that they were cheated out of years ago. Fans can finally see the relationship they caught a quick glimpse of but was abruptly pulled away from them, come to fruition. It’s a unique love story that’s been a long time in the making, and lucky for GH viewers, now it can finally be told.
