GH Next Generation: Josslyn Jacks and Laura Collins

Granted, there are only so many General Hospital stories and character types to go around. But, sometimes, we get a distinctive sense of soap opera déjà vu where one character seems to be following in similar (but not exact) footsteps of another. But that makes it fun! We can look into the past and present of two different characters to predict what the younger one’s future might turn out to be. Today: Josslyn Jacks and Laura Vining Webber Baldwin Spencer Cassadine Collins.

Laura Collins: In the Beginning

Laura (Genie Francis) was switched at birth and spent the first decade or so of her life growing up as a daughter of the Vining family. She had to switch households when she moved in with Lesley (Denise Alexander) and Rick (Chris Robinson). Joss (Eden McCoy) bounced between the homes of bio dad Jasper Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) and stepdad Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) because mom Carly (Laura Wright) just couldn’t make up her mind. Oh, and while she wasn’t switched at birth, Joss did suffer a case of switched kidneys. She was supposed to get a donation from the recently deceased Jake. But he turned out not to be deceased. So Nelle’s kidney was swapped in, instead. Laura went under the knife, too, at a relatively young age after she was in a car accident.

Josslyn Jacks: First Love

Laura’s first love was sweet law student, Scotty (Kin Shriner). Joss’s first lovemaking experience was sweet fellow college student Cam (William Lipton). Laura was raped by Luke (Anthony Gear). Joss was recorded having sex, and the video was released publicly. Of course, you can’t compare those two, however, both women had things happen to them that they couldn’t control. Laura fell for Luke, a reluctant mobster, while she was committed to Scotty. Joss cheated on her boyfriend Cam with Dex (Evan Hofer), pretend mobster.

General Hospital: Where Do We Go From Here

Laura went on to save the world multiple times (most recently from a deadly toxin in Greenland). She got kidnapped and presumed dead. She lost her mind and found it again. She is a mother, a grandmother, and mayor of Port Charles. Is any of that in the cards for Joss? And, if it is, would Joss want to know in advance?
