Anna’s Biggest Problem Isn’t Peter’s Return on General Hospital

Anna may understand that she is struggling, but she still may not realize how much influence Peter has over her.

General Hospital’s Anna knows something is wrong, which may be the most frightening part of what is happening to her. She recognized that her time on Spoon Island left damage behind, admitted she needed therapy, and even started identifying the things that trigger her. The problem is that Anna still thinks she has a handle on it, while viewers just watched her trauma hand Peter a microphone and let him start issuing murder instructions.

Key Takeaways

  • Anna knows her time on Spoon Island left her traumatized and agrees she needs therapy.
  • Her panic attack shows that knowing Faison is dead has not made her feel safe.
  • Peter is now appearing to Anna and urging her to kill Britt and anyone who gets in the way.
  • Anna’s biggest danger may be believing that Peter’s voice is telling her what she needs to do.

Anna Knows She Is Not Okay

Anna’s (Finola Hughes) panic attack in the elevator was not something she could explain away. Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) helped her breathe through it, but Anna was shaken by how completely she lost control. She later admitted that she flashed back to Faison (Anders Hove) and felt convinced he was coming for her again, even though she knows he is dead.

That distinction matters because Anna is not confused about the facts. She knows Faison cannot hurt her, yet her body and mind are reacting as though the danger never ended. When she told Valentin that she no longer felt safe, including around the people she loves, it showed how far the fear had already spread.

Anna also understood that she needed help. She agreed to find a therapist and believed avoiding triggers could help her get through this. That sounds sensible enough, except trauma rarely bothers to check the guest list before showing up.

Peter Is Turning Anna’s Fear Into Something Worse

The truly alarming moment came after Anna thought she had figured out what was happening. Across the room, Peter (Wes Ramsey) appeared and told her that killing Britt was the only way to find peace. He even told her to kill anyone who tried to stop her.

Peter may not actually be there, but that does not make him harmless. Anna is already experiencing him as a voice tied to her fear, guilt, and memories, and now that voice is giving her a solution. That is much more dangerous than a simple flashback because Anna could start mistaking a trauma response for instinct.

That is the disconnect viewers can see, even if Anna cannot yet. She believes she needs therapy, fewer triggers, and time to recover, but what is happening has already moved beyond bad memories. Peter is not Anna’s biggest problem right now. The bigger problem is that part of Anna may be starting to believe him.
