General Hospital has been teasing a pairing between Anna Devane and Valentin Cassadine for six years, and it’s already been nearly one year since we knew it was finally going to happen. Yes, it was last July 4 when Anna and Valentin shared their first kiss and it has been a slow, slow, sloooowwww burn ever since.
General Hospital’s Paydirt Needs A Payoff
It’s rare when a soap hits paydirt and a bullseye so well with a couple that their chemistry and charm reach right through the TV screen. But that is exactly where we are with Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), or Vanna, as they are known out there in the Twitterverse. After dancing around one another for years, enemies turned to frenemies, frenemies turned to friends, and friends have still not turned into lovers, but we should be on our way soon, right?
Well, that is what we thought with Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard), but their first kiss was months ago and we’ve seen nothing but high school antics with them ever since. Thankfully, Anna and Valentin’s antics have been anything but high school since that first kiss, and there is actually a reason it’s taken this long to get to a first date.
Unlike Brook Lynn and Chase who are frequently seen, Anna and fans had a Valentin drought this year when Stuart was filming his new Disney series, Villains of Valley View. That left writers scrambling to find a way to keep him and Anna a valuable pairing after a New Year’s Eve kiss that left us all wanting more. With him gone, it took this long to finally get more and all we can do is pray the show doesn’t mess this one up.
Anna & Valentin Have It All
Thankfully, we also have two seasoned soap professionals in Stuart and Hughes who completely understand the assignment, ready to give us more as long as the scenes are there for them to play. With Anna and Valentin, we get sophistication, intelligence, sex appeal, and old-fashioned banter worthy of those classic films the characters apparently love so much.
All GH has to do is just run with this and not drop the ball as it has with other new pairings. Now that Stuart is back on a regular basis, this is the show’s chance to get a new couple right.
