A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: Old School Soap Enjoyable

The author’s opinions on General Hospital are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

I…did not hate this week’s General Hospital. Was it perfect? Hardly. Were there a few performances that fell a bit flat? You bet. Did Liesl (Kathleen Gati) disappoint with how readily she ceased her excoriation of Carly (Laura Wright)? You bet ya. Was one-handed Ryan’s (Jon Lindstrom) rampage at Wyndemere just a tad bit comical? Boy howdy. But all in all, I was pretty well entertained.

Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Portia’s (Brook Kerr) well-attended, tension-stuffed, episodes-long wedding and reception, smacked of old school soapy goodness, and the farcical shenanigans unspooling on Spoon Island have my full attention thanks wholly to the rightful inclusion of Felicia, my abiding love for Ava (Maura West) and cray cray Ryan, and the inevitable, encroaching denouement to the much-maligned ‘Hooker Of Port Charles’ plot…maybe.

Heck, I didn’t even mind Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Dante’s (Dominic Zamprogna) scenes. The twosome is never, ever going to reach ‘smoketastic sleuths’ status but they were…not out-and-out fun, but…enjoyable.

Further GH Musings

* Though heartened by Tagger’s (Réal Andrews) declaration that he’d always be Trina’s (Tabyana Ali) father regardless of a blood connection, I’d probably be more inclined to feel a real something for the daddy/daughter duo if their supposedly rock-solid relationship had actually been depicted onscreen to any real degree.

What do you think? Post a comment!

* Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) was the best-dressed guest at the Ashford’s deeming ceremony, and that is a fact. There will be no debating.

* Where in the world did they — and by ‘they’ I most certainly mean Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris — get that Connie Cooper was Ryan’s first victim? Let’s see, there was his own mother, his father’s mistress, Marsha, Linda Walker, her friend Michelle, his wife, Gloria, and….wait, why am I doing the homework that the head writers of this show SHOULD be doing? Wouldn’t it be nice to get paid to get things so wrong?

* Yuri (Cyrus Hobbi) sighting. Squeal!
