When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.
General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review
First, there were Gordon Grey’s retconned sons so that Laura Collins (Genie Francis) could be granted an insta-family. Then, facts previously established in the shooting of Hayden Barnes — who knew what and when they knew it — was muddled and/or completely rewritten. Then General Hospital’s head honchos Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris tied themselves into knots to position Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) as Nina Reeves’s (Cynthia Watros) daughter, and the less said about Ryan Chamberlin’s (Jon Lindstrom) heretofore unknown spawn and the man baby that Mac Scorpio (John J. York) maybe had with Dominique the better.
Now, General Hospital is presenting Carly Corinthos’s (Laura Wright) tale of girlhood woe as if she hasn’t already reckoned with it and did so because a very much alive Charlotte “Carly” Reese Roberts came to Port Charles with revenge on her mind. Is no part of this soap’s cannon safe?
No, no it isn’t. Not when you have Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) referencing a past that he shouldn’t be able to recall because he’s in possession of JASON MORGAN’S memories and not his own, or Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) recalling murdering a woman who it’s been established died years later from a disease called Blackwood’s Syndrome.
Perhaps one day Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris will get something right. Until then, I intend to deride these clownish plot points harshly and frequently.
Further GH Musings
* I had high hopes that Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) would come around to Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) side of things and help him put Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) in his place, but now I’m firmly team Michael and I want to see him, and Dex, bring Sonny to his knees. Sigh.
* The Mad Hooker of Port Charles — and yes, I know that General Hospital has officially dubbed the menace The Hook, but my nickname is better — is so obviously Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) that it just isn’t.
