When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.
I had hoped — prayed? — that the trite Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) were spewing to each other on those oh so rocky Jacksonville, Florida cliffs would be the nadir of dumb, cringe inducing, and/or unintentionally hilarious dialogue. I was wrong.
I’m not sure which line/scene had been chuckling/guffawing the loudest, but there were so many to choose from:
It could have been Carolyn Webber (Denise Crosby) insisting that she and Jeff Webber (William Moses) were, “of course happy,” to see Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) after their daughter had extracted from them the truth about Jeff’s affair with Reiko Finn and the role she played in her subsequent death. Maybe it was slightly before that when Jeff loudly, and exacerbated, agreed to come clean to Liz, “since you REFUSE to let this go.” Or it could have been wee Lizzie’s out of nowhere aspersion that Reiko was, “A HOMEWRECKING WHORE!”
No, no, it must have been when Carly insisted to Drew that she and Sam, “are really good friends.” No, it was definitely when Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) likened Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) to a flimflam man. (Aside: I freakin’ love Scotty. And yes, he’ll always be Scotty to me)
No, it most certainly was when Drew had to be apprised of the fact that what he *ahem* the hypothetical man in his example committed was textbook insider trading. Perhaps it’s this downright ignorance of common business practices that should preclude Drew from being CEO of not only ELQ but of anything. Then again, Billy Miller’s version of Drew wasn’t this shortsighted nor was he whipped by Carly.
Also, even though my head knows that Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) was making the points to steady Robert Scorpio’s (Tristan Rogers) hand so she wouldn’t have to betray his plans to Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy), it hurt my heart to hear her claim, “Moving around court officials, looking for loopholes? It’s not you.”
Oh, and since when is Holly an, “old friend,” of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard)? Shouldn’t he still be a might sore over her ransoming the antidote to that mutant strain of encephalitis that claimed his sister’s life, or, akin to Bruno, do we not talk about Holly’s mercenary past?
* Am I the only one decrying GH’s decision to tear Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) asunder?
* Is it just me, or does Roger Howarth shine opposite every actress he comes into contact with aside from Kirsten Storms? Austin Gatlin-Holt and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud): fire! Austin and Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs): great platonic chemistry. [I wouldn’t be opposed to a real friendship developing between these two.] Austin and Maxie Jones? Total dud.
* Once upon a time, ‘Robin’s bridge’ was a sacred site. Now, General Hospital sees fit to have all manner of scenes play out there, and I am not amused.
* One could put forth the argument that she was instrumental in bridging the gap between Jeff and his biological father, Steve Hardy, but it’s still weird to me that a photograph of Audrey Hardy (Rachel Ames) graces the Webber home’s mantlepiece and Steve’s is noticeably absent. Did Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris fail yet again in their duty to research General Hospital canon?
* Thank the universe that Genie Francis is back on my screen! By the by, I forgot how delightful Laura Collins and Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) are when they’re involved in a good caper. More of that, less of pretty much everything else that GH has going on.
* Wasn’t there much too much talk of Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) to not feature her in a single episode?
