Rena Sofer has made a triumphant return to General Hospital as Lois Cerullo, the loud and lovable character she originated in 1993 and that earned her a Daytime Emmy as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1995.
General Hospital Lois Cerullo
Ned’s (Wally Kurth) ex and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) mother was always a force to be reckoned with during her tenure on the soap. Need a refresher course on the character? Here’s a recap of the wild and wonderful Lois.
Brooklyn-born Lois first surfaced in December 1993 as a band manager in New York City. She soon began representing singer “Eddie Maine” and The Idle Rich. Lois had no clue that “Eddie” was really Ned Quartermaine. In fact, he led her to believe that he was a traveling pharmaceutical salesman by day. The pair fell in love and got married, with Lois never knowing the truth.
After their wedding, Ned and Lois moved to Port Charles, where Lois reconnected with her old Bensonhurt friend, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). She soon met Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil). The pair quickly became besties and opened their own recording company, L&B Records. Meanwhile, Lois remained in the dark about Ned’s true identity.
General Hospital: The Ugly Truth
Eventually, Lois learned the truth about Eddie/Ned, and it was ugly. Not only had Katherine Bell (Mary Beth Evans) been blackmailing the Quartermaines, but she had forced Ned to marry her. A furious Lois confronted the pair at Katherine’s birthday party when she popped out of the cake and introduced herself as “the other Mrs. Ned Ashton.” Lois dumped Ned, but he was determined to win her back. In time, Lois gave Ned another chance, and the pair remarried.
Lois Cerullo Family Ties
Unfortunately, Ned’s family drove a wedge between him and Lois. At her breaking point, Lois asked Ned to distance himself from the Quartermaines. She finally gave him an ultimatum: Choose her and the child she was carrying or his job at ELQ. She was crushed when he chose the Qs and their family business. Lois left Ned and moved home to Bensonhurst, where she gave birth to a baby girl, Brook Lynn. However, feeling guilty about keeping Ned from his daughter, Lois returned to Port Charles. Her hopes of a reconciliation were squashed when Lois discovered that Ned was blackmailing his cousin, Justus, and planning to sue for sole custody of Brook Lynn. So Lois quickly left town again.
GH: Return Engagement
Lois returned to Port Charles in 2004 looking for the now teenage Brook Lynn, who had run away from home. She comforted Ned over the death of his beloved grandmother, Lila, but a reconciliation wasn’t in the cards for the couple. Instead, Lois began dating Lorenzo Alcazar (Ted King).
Lois also reconnected with Brook Lynn, who agreed to start a girl band for her mother’s record label. The band never panned out, nor did Lois’s romance with Lorenzo. Lois and Ned tried to give their relationship another go but quickly realized they were better suited as friends. Nevertheless, Lois, Ned, and Brooklyn all decided to move to New York City and work in the music industry. Years later, Lois’s friend, Olivia (Lisa LoCicero), revealed that Lois, Ned, and Brook Lynn were living in Los Angeles. Ned and Brook Lynn ultimately returned to Port Charles, but Lois was said to be living in London and managing bands throughout Europe.
