On General Hospital, Drew’s still locked in his own head half the time, focused, controlled, and not exactly great at letting people in. Meanwhile, Elizabeth has figured out that he could utilize better ways to communicate, but Willow put the kibosh on that idea. Off-screen, Cameron Mathison is dealing with a version of that same scenario, just without the scripted guardrails, and the way he talks about it is a lot more open than what Drew’s managing right now.

Key Takeaways

  • Mathison says dating apps felt like a “new world” after his divorce.
  • He admits he got caught up in dating while trying to distract himself.
  • He stepped back from dating apps, saying it became “a bit much.”
  • He says he needs time to heal and focus on himself.
  • He maintains a supportive, respectful relationship with his ex-wife, which their kids have noticed.

Mathison on Dating Again

Mathison spoke to Us Magazine and didn’t try to pretend the transition back into dating after his divorce from Vanessa Mathison was smooth. “In these almost three years of being single, I have been dating,” he said. “The whole app world is new to me. It’s a new world.”

He explained that jumping into dating apps felt like learning a different language. He spoke frankly about getting immersed in the apps, noting that meeting people wasn’t something he’d done for quite some time. He added that part of that push came from trying to distract himself after the breakup. “I met a lot of amazing people… but at the same time, I hadn’t been ready for anything more serious.”

That’s where the shift came in. He said he “stepped back big time” because it started to feel like too much, and not in a productive way. “It was a bit much for me. I need time to heal and do my thing,” he said.

Family Still Comes First Even As Things Change

Even with everything shifting, Mathison made it clear the foundation at home hasn’t fallen apart completely. He said the end of his marriage wasn’t his decision, but he’s not carrying anger around because of it. “I love her. I care about her. I want her to be happy in this chapter,” he said, describing a relationship that changed shape without completely breaking.

He also mentioned that his children have noticed the effort to be civil between their parents. He explained that they’ve told him they see what he’s doing to keep things steady, even if it looks different now. That kind of feedback doesn’t come from consistency over time.

Ultimately, he’s not rushing into anything, not forcing a timeline, and not trying to turn this into something it isn’t yet. He’s keeping things simple, focusing on what matters, and letting the rest sort itself out instead of trying to control it.
