Best of 2019 Soap Operas: Best Daytime Criers

Heroines shed tears of sorrow when unhappiness occurs and cry tears of joy when something fantastic happens! So, you can imagine how much crying happens on soap operas.

The waterworks turn on and sometimes it seems that they will never shut off as the tears keep coming. Here’s a look at who Soap Hub feels turned on believable sadness and anguish in 2019!

The Bold and the Beautiful: Hope Logan

Hope (Annika Noelle) cried more than practically anyone on daytime in 2019 but, in fairness, she had every reason to do so – both good and bad. First, she cried when she was in labor due to the emotional highs she was experiencing (and probably a lot of pain).

Then, it was tears of sorrow after she’d been lied to and told her baby had died. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Tears and more tears followed and flowed. Hope cried when she and Liam (Scott Clifton) split, and then, she shed tears of joy after learning that her baby was truly alive! Kudos to Noelle, who makes every teardrop – either prompted by joy or heartbreak — look genuine.

Days of our Lives: Nicole Walker

Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) has had plenty to cry about this year, too. She was separated from her daughter, Holly. She also came back from the dead and was torn between telling Eric (Greg Vaughan) whether or not he was the father of Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) baby.

Zucker, a three-time Emmy-nominee for playing Nicole, doesn’t phone in the tears – she brings authenticity to all of her scenes. The Nicole mask Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) wore may have been fake, but the tears Nicole sheds were very real!

General Hospital: Kim Nero

Viewers know that Emmy-winner Tamara Braun (ex-Kim) knows how to cry. Her storyline this past year on GH led to Kim turning on the waterworks on a regular basis — which we see a lot of on soap operas. She had to deal with the fact that her son Oscar (Garren Stitt) was dying and then had to go through the emotional ordeal of his passing.

Even worse, Kim lost Drew (Billy Miller), Oscar’s dad not once, but twice. First when Drew was presumed dead in a plane crash and then, again, after Dranco (Roger Howarth) decided to undergo a treatment that was to remove Drew’s memories/persona from his body. Wherever Kim is, her supporters hope that she’s finding peace and will someday only shed tears of joy.

The Young and the Restless: Traci Abbott

Who can blame Traci (Emmy-winner Beth Maitland) for shedding tears more than most do in Genoa City? She’s shared heartbreaking scenes with her mother Dina (Marla Adams), suffering from Alzheimer’s, in which the matriarch will recall who some of her children are, but not Traci!

As Dina’s youngest, Traci cares for her family deeply and she’s seen it be torn apart over money, position, and hurt feelings. Fortunately, one family occurrence this year was a reason for tears of joy – Traci’s nephew Kyle (Michael Mealor) wed fiancée Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) in 2019. Who doesn’t cry at weddings?
