Before They Were Soap Stars: GH’s Finola Hughes Goes A-Stray

Anna Devane has lived many lives on General Hospital. Finola Hughes first showed up as the super spy in 1985 as Robert Scorpio’s, played by fan-favorite Tristan Rogers, heretofore never mentioned ex-wife.

She’d been a double agent who betrayed the World Security Bureau and now carried a facial scar as a memento of when it all went wrong. She was originally in cahoots with Sean Donely (John Reilly) to steal Felicia’s (Kristina Wagner) family treasure. But then Anna (Finola Hughes) switched sides, revealed the scar was fake – oh, and that she and Robert had a daughter, Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough).

Since then, Anna has been a fence, a private eye, police commissioner, and presumed dead. She spent some time as an amnesiac on All My Children, so we know everything she’s done since popping up in Port Charles. But what about before?

Dance, Dance Revolution

Two years before she was Anna, Hughes co-starred with John Travolta in the Saturday Night Fever follow-up, Staying Alive. Check out both of them strutting their stuff, here. But before she was dancing in the movies, Finola Hughes was slinking around on stage as Victoria the White Cat in, what else, CATS!

Now, this isn’t the movie version that hit screens at the tail end of 2019. The costumes weren’t computer-generated. The actors actually had to be coated in fur, night after night. And then they had to dance in them for several hours straight. It’s not easy to become a cat. It takes hours of rehearsal, like so, in order for it to eventually look like so. Dancers are supposed to communicate exclusively through movement, but, here, the future soap star talks about her role and how it all came together.
