Ava has never been known for lowering her eyes and asking a dangerous man to please stop pointing the weapon at her. General Hospital put that trait under a spotlight when Sidwell stormed into her gallery, waving a gun and looking for hostages. Ava proved once again that fear may visit her, but it does not get to sit down and order coffee.

Key Takeaways

  • Ava refused to back down, even with Sidwell pointing a gun at her.
  • She called Sidwell out for what he did to Lucas and Marco.
  • Ava’s defiance may have made the situation more dangerous.
  • Ethan took a bullet while protecting Ava.
  • Ava’s fearlessness helps her survive, but it can also put others in danger.

Ava Does Not Back Down

Sidwell (Carlo Rota) walked into the gallery with a gun, took Ethan’s (Nathan Dean) weapon, and tried to turn Ava (Maura West) into his traveling companion. Ava responded by doing what Ava does best. She insulted him, called out what he did to Lucas (Van Hansis) and Marco (Adrian Anchondo), and basically poked the armed bear with a gallery-grade letter opener.

That defiance is part of why Ava is still Ava. She reads people fast, she does not melt under pressure, and she knows how to make a villain angry enough to reveal something useful. Even when Sidwell decided Sonny (Maurice Benard) would not bargain for her life, Ava still kept pushing.

But Ethan had a point later. When someone is holding a gun, maybe that is not the ideal time to start a greatest hits album of insults. Ava’s refusal to bend may help her survive, but it also made a bad situation worse. Sidwell went to shoot her, and Ethan jumped in front of the bullet.

Ethan Paid the Price

The result was somehow serious and ridiculous, because only Ava could end up in a storage room, wrapping a pressure bandage around a man’s backside while complaining about expensive drop cloths. Ethan took the bullet on instinct, and Ava was rattled enough to ask why he did it.

That matters because Ava is not used to people saving her without a bill attached. She can be ruthless, funny, and impossible, but she also recognizes loyalty when it bleeds all over her art supplies. Ethan protected her because he saw danger coming faster than she did.

Still, that’s the trouble with Ava’s fearlessness. It draws fire. Sometimes it keeps her alive because she refuses to look weak. Other times, it puts everyone near her in the blast path. Ava may not back down from men like Sidwell, but Ethan’s wound is a reminder that courage can get expensive when somebody else has to pay the tab.
