Actress and activist Amber Tamblyn was cast as Emily Bowen Quartermaine on General Hospital at the end of 1994, first appeared in 1995, and eventually left the role in the middle of 2001. Recently, the soap alum was a guest on a talk show and had plenty of great things to say about her daytime experience.
Tamblyn was recently a guest on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. When Cohen asked her if she stayed in touch with any of her former GH co-stars, the actress shared that they often tag each other in posts and expressed her love and appreciation for those she worked with.
“That cast is like my first family, my first love, it was one of the great experiences of my life,” Tamblyn said. “I don’t have a bad thing to say about it.” The conversation turned to the late Stuart Damon (ex-Alan Quartermaine), who died earlier this year, and played Tamblyn’s adoptive on-screen dad.
“He was like a father figure to me,” she said. When he passed in June, the actress posted a loving tribute on her Twitter account. “Broken hearted to hear of the passing of Stuart Damon,” she wrote at the time, adding a couple of photos of the two together. “He played my adopted dad on General Hospital for 7 years and he was the most kind, wonderful, loving, supportive person. He always made me laugh and made me feel safe on set. I love you, Stewy. Rest well now, my friend.”
She reiterated the part about feeling safe during the Watch What Happens Live interview. “Often with kid actors, I think some really bad stuff can happen on sets, and I never had that,” she said. “It was just the most loving, amazing experience.” Tamblyn punctuated that point by blowing kisses to the camera and exclaiming, “I love you General Hospital, forever!”
Of course, Emily died on GH, so we’re probably not going to see Tamblyn back on the soap anytime soon. However, the actress is keeping plenty busy, appearing on primetime in Y: The Last Man, speaking out against injustices with her activism, writing books of poetry, and there’s always talk of another Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants sequel in the rumor mill.
