A Critic’s Review of General Hospital: In The Name of the Father

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review

Finn (Michael Easton), you ARE the father…at least according to a paternity test that may or may not have been tampered with by a lackey acting on Cyrus’s (Jeff Kober) orders. Luckily for everyone involved, Finn is poised to have the test redone at another hospital. Seems like he’s learned his lesson about GH and their penchant for forged results.

And that sets up some tantalizing possibilities. What hurtful words and other home truths will hurl betwixt the devastated foursome that is Finn, Chase (Josh Swickard), Gregory (Gregory Harrison), and Jackie (Kim Delaney) before the actual truth is laid bare? Will relationships be irreparably damaged all for naught?

And will anyone ever trace the (possibly) rigged test and the subsequent outing of the family drama back to Cyrus and Peter August (Wes Ramsey), his latest partner-in-crime?

And speaking of the dastardly duo, we’d like to thank the writers for concocting this delicious team-up. When you think about it, it just makes good sense. They both hate Jason (Steve Burton) and need him well and truly out of the way, and they both have two of the town’s most powerful institutions at their disposal – the hospital and a gossip rag.

Cyrus also has another ace up his sleeve in the form of Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs). She’s a lean, mean, falsehood telling machine, and her fraudulent testimony might be the one thing capable of neutering Jason’s stronghold on Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) territory.

Ah, Sonny. All signs seem to indicate that we’ll soon get even more forward momentum where his storyline is concerned, but Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) introduction into the mixing raises a whole other set of questions. Will she actually get Sonny’s help? Will she leverage her knowledge? Or is this just one big tease and the truth is she’ll never clap eyes on The Tan-o’s savior?

Further GH Musings

* This soap deserves all the cheers for their beautiful staging of the first half of Franco’s (Roger Howarth) memorial service – and by the bye, wasn’t it so wonderful to see Liz (Rebecca Herbst) surrounded by all three of her boys?

However, we do have a pretty big jeer to dish out. Where exactly was all of Nurse Webber’s GH family? No Terry (Cassandra James), no Epiphany (Sonya Eddy) no Amy (Risa Dorken), no Deanna (Dioni Michelle Collins)? Where were Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) and Finn?

And on the subject of no-shows, could we have at least gotten SOME mention of Liz’s biological MIA family? Did anyone inform Jeff or Sarah, or even dear old Gran that Franco had died?

* A round of applause for William Lipton and the stirring performance he gave when Cameron angrily confronted Zander’s (Chad Brannon) specter. That talented young man more than held his own against a former Daytime Emmy Award winner, and he continued to prove why he’s so deserving of frequent Performer of the Week honors.

* Wouldn’t it have behooved Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) to remain in her self-imposed exile a little while longer – at least a good few weeks after her baby’s birth. Then she’d at least have some plausible deniability where Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) part in the conception is concerned.

As it is, nearly everyone in the Q family knows about the pregnancy, and who the father is – and so does Valentin. We get that Brook Lynn is impulsive and overly self-assured, but she’s never been written as this stupid before.

* Sam, Sam, Sam (Kelly Monaco). You bemoan the fact that there will never be justice for Drew, and then you go and ruin the one and only way he’ll ever get any. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
