A Critic’s Review of General Hospital: Filling In The Blanks

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review

Roger Howarth’s Austin finally revealed his true identity, and much to no one’s great surprise, he wound up being the son of Quartermaine bastard Jimmy Lee Holt. Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) managed to get him to fess up to what exactly it is that he wants – and that is shares in ELQ. Which brings up a bit of a sticky situation.

Currently, it’s the head writers’ position that Edward Quartermaine’s will specifically excludes Jimmy Lee and all of his progeny. Well, we went back and watched the actual scenes…and that’s just not at all true.

In fact, Edward’s will provided for all LIVING grandchildren and great-grandchildren; the formers were to receive 12% shares in ELQ, the latter little ones 6%. So, as a LIVING grandchild, Austin should automatically receive his inheritance.

However, it struck us as curious that Austin, through attorney Scotty Baldwin (Kin Shriner) is launching a lawsuit against Edward’s estate over the bias of naming some descendants in the will and not others.

Might Austin be working in tandem with another Quartermaine black sheep who received only a pittance in the will? It is worth noting that Tracy Quartermaine’s (Jane Elliot) name has come up quite a few times in the past few episodes.

Further GH Musings

* How could Monica actually make the claim that Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) was very much a part of the Quartermaine family? He hasn’t given those people or ELQ a second thought in years. Hell, he barely has a relationship with Monica. When last those two spoke, she talked about his near-death experience and his going on the lam from murderous thugs as he’d merely gone off for a skiing holiday.

* Sounds like Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) really needs to read that biography of her great-grandfather that Olivia Q (Lisa LoCicero) so highly recommends – how else to explain her shock and awe that Edward had cheated on Lila…guess she doesn’t know a thing about the Ward family, huh?

* The Corinthos Organization has led to the end of yet another marriage. SpinEllie, we hardly knew ya. Here’s hoping Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor) wises up and chooses Sasha Gilmore and their child over “the business.”

* It’s nice to see that Ryan’s Bar is still operational, and it most certainly warms the hearts of former Ryan’s Hope devotees to hear that Ryan matriarch Maeve is still going strong – and still entertaining with her go-to standard, Danny Boy.

However, every time the bar makes an appearance, it makes this writer wonder why the heck Delia Reed Ryan Coleridge isn’t in Port Charles offering daughter Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) some much-needed support. Does Delia even know that her granddaughter, Kiki, was murdered by Ryan Chamberlin (Jon Lindstrom)? Does she even know Ava married an honest-to-goodness Prince?

* Speaking of Ava and Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma), how is it that neither one of them suspects that the recently returned Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) might be the elusive stalker intent on splitting them up?

And while we’re on the subject of Spencer, we must say that we’re most looking forward to his reunion with Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). Sure, Spencer never had a mother, but if there was ever a woman he’d choose to raise him in lieu of Courtney,  it would have been Britt. Let’s hope their special bond is remembered.

* Did it grate on anyone else’s nerves that Phyllis Caulfield (Joyce Guy) thought to hug “Mike” (Maurice Benard) before she did likewise with her DYING HUSBAND?!

* First, The Port Charles Grill, then Beradino’s, Curtis Ashford’s (Donnell Turner) nightclub The Savoy, and now the Metro Court hotel swimming pool/sauna…viewers have been spoiled with all these new sets.

* Now that we’ve witnessed the near cross between Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Sonny Corinthos, how many more Port Charlesites do you think will nearly cross the amnesiac’s path?
