When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.
A true example of cruel and unusual punishment is being forced to contend with Peter August’s (Wes Ramsey) uncanny ability to go on living. Anytime it appears that this reprobate has been licked, be assured that a bait and switch will be pulled. To quote the great Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati), ” Shoot that schwein and be done with it!”
Equally reprehensible, is watching the slow destruction of Olivia Falconeri Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero). It’s bad enough that one of General Hospital’s best characters, has been saddled with a storyline that paints her as a bad mother, and a terrible romantic partner, but now they’ve got her purposefully seeking out confrontations, and drunkenly macking on a man old enough to be her father. Olivia and Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) made a great team before all this bologna (shades of Felicia Scorpio and Sean Donely), but now…
* Did anyone ask Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and/or Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) their opinion on the nascent Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) pairing? No? We didn’t think so. Just another case of the gruesome twosome insinuating themselves into a situation that doesn’t concern them.
* Didn’t General Hospital spoilers reveal that Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) would have a warning for Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) on Friday’s show? Where was that scene?
* Dumbest Character: Joey Novak (Patrick Zeller).
* Good God, The Hypocrisy Is Staggering:
Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) oh so subtly compares Esme Prince ((Kristen Avery Pohl) to Lady Macbeth – a, manipulative conniving woman who will say or do anything to get what they want no matter who they hurt – with zero awareness that she just described her mother to a tee.
Who is Elizabeth to pass judgement on Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros)? She didn’t the exact same thing Nina did to Jake Doe/Jason Morgan/Drew Cain.
* If Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) is so omnipotent, so invested in Valentin Cassadine’s (James Patrick Stuart) well being, and actually the man’s biological father, then how come that DNA test said that Valentin wasn’t a Cassadine? Is Victor not a blood Cassadine? Is Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) not a Cassadine? Or is all this just another retcon that we’re not supposed to read too much into?
* Recipient of the Mother of All Mother’s Award: Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr). Sure, she’s still bogarting a secret about concerning Trina Robinson’s (Sydney Mikayla) paternity, but she raised that girl all kinds of right.
* Twosome That We Want to See More Of: Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) and Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs).
* With all the retconning going on, we feel that kudos are in order for the General Hospital scriptwriter who remembered Olivia’s love for dogs.
