We hope she’ll always be part “Britch,” but Kelly Thiebaud and her character have come a long way since her debut on General Hospital back in 2012. The actress made the scene as Dr. Britt Westbourne, a sexy and attractive physician, who earned the dubious nickname “The Britch” by hospital personnel who found Britt to be bitchy.
The show was setting up a romance between Dr. Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson) and Nurse Sabrina Santiago (Teresa Castillo) after the good doctor thought his beloved Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) had died. Sexy Britt was introduced as a foil, who had steamy sex with Patrick in a shower.
A recent conversation between Dr. Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) and her pal, Nurse Elizabeth Webber Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), reminded viewers that among Britt’s evil deeds was throwing Emma Scorpio-Drake’s (Brooklyn Rae Silzer) doll Ariel to her death!
If you didn’t see it, Emma handed Ariel, a doll that was just like a baby, to Britt, who, in fairness, made an attempt to engage with the piece of plastic. But then, “Ariel” went, shall we say, “No. 1” on Britt. She reacted instinctively and threw the doll into the air. Poor Ariel landed on Mac Scorpio’s (John J. York) barbeque and was incinerated. Emma was traumatized (“My baby’s on fire!”) and Britt Westbourne‘s status as the “Britch” was ensconced.
Sadly, Ariel is one soap “character” who hasn’t been resurrected. Britt, however, has gained new life over the years. Gone is the woman who interrupted a poignant moment during the Nurses Ball to announce she was pregnant with Patrick’s baby (she was lying) and in her place is a vulnerable woman capable of great love as evidenced by her feelings for Jason Morgan (Steve Burton).
The couple’s mini “love on the run” storyline earlier this year showed us a different side to Britt. She risked her freedom, saved Jason’s life by operating on him, and opened up her heart by sharing with Jason her fears over what having the Huntington’s disease marker means.
A little time has passed since Jason informed Britt he was marrying BFF Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) but that hasn’t lessened Britt’s pain over losing him and what could have been. When she recently ran into Jason by the General Hospital elevators, Britt blasted Stone Cold Jason Morgan for the money she wasted on buying new toothbrushes as she was planning on giving him one, thinking he’d be staying over after some passionate lovemaking.
Who hasn’t bought an extra toothbrush head, tickets to a concert or play, or made dinner for someone who has no intention of being there when you think that they’re going to show up and be a part of your life? Viewers felt for Britt, not because she’s out the five bucks for Jason’s toothbrush (she bought a pack of four and they average about $5 each) but because she got her hopes up that he was as interested in her as she was (is?) in him.
We’re hoping that Britt soon learns the truth — that Jason isn’t really in love with his best friend and that they’re only marrying for the business (and to save Carly’s life) — but in the meantime, we’re continuing to feel for her as she attempts to move forward with a broken heart and some spare toothbrushes.
