When it comes to bold audacious kids, Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital (GH) is undeniably tops in daytime. He will probably annoy his kidnapper to no end. But one day he will be free and there is a possible future waiting for him.
The one and only son of the late Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) and Courtney (Alicia Leigh Willis), Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel) takes charge in every situation – oft times to the chagrin of the adults in his family.
That’s why we think he’s got what it takes to be the soap’s next mob boss. That is, once he escapes his kidnapper and grows up. Here are five reasons why.
Fearless Factor
While young Spencer probably should cringe and cower around Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) – after all, the guy did supposedly kill his father – he never does.
The kid gets right in his nasty uncle’s face and calls him out on his crimes, proving he’s absolutely fearless. That’s the top quality needed to be a mob kingpin.
The Capo Connection
Spencer comes from the same gene pool as Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) – his late mother’s brother and Port Charles’ current “capo.”
He totally idolizes his uncle and everything he stands for, so segueing into the family business would be a natural fit. Plus, Spencer could learn the ropes under Sonny’s tutelage.
The Cassadine Connection
Spencer is also a Cassadine, a family synonymous with doing whatever it takes to get what they want. Remember, evil Helena (Constance Towers) is his great grandmother. They kill. They kidnap. They brainwash.
They scheme and manipulate situations to their advantage. All of the above are key resume components to anyone applying for a job as mafia leader.
Talking Smack and Whack
The kid already asked his Uncle Sonny to “whack” Valentin. So he’s got the mob jargon down. When Sonny asked if he understood what that meant, Spencer admitted he did, without batting an eye.
He wanted Valentin eliminated to avenge his father’s death and to get back what was rightfully his. He’s not even a teenager and already has the mob mentality down.
Money Is Power
Having grown up filthy rich, Spencer has spent his young life knowing the relationship between money and power. The two go hand in hand. The mob goes hand in hand with power, too.
Spencer was born to rule in some capacity — if not following in Nikolas’s princely footsteps, then why not as a mob king? The wise-beyond-his-years Cassadine has already proven he was born to call the shots.
