Get ready, NCIS fans… Season 17 is less than a month away! Series star Wilmer Valderrama, who plays Nick Torres, shared a photo from the set that has fans super excited for the season premiere.
Valderrama posted a photo of Cote de Pablo, who played Ziva David, along with co-star Emily Wickersham (Ellie Bishop), to Instagram with the caption, “I’m just gonna leave this over here…. Tuesday, September 24.. #NCIS.”
Not only is this photo a look into what’s to come in the Season 17 premiere, but it also confirms that Ziva — who was shockingly revealed to still be alive in the Season 16 finale — will be returning to the show for the season opener.
Ziva was supposedly killed in Israel back in Season 13 when Trent Kort was trying to tie up loose ends, but in the Season 16 finale, she showed up in Gibbs’ (Mark Harmon) basement to reveal that not only is he in danger but she was there to help him out of it.
Valderrama’s post comes just over a month after he shared a photo of the cast reuniting for the first table read of the season. He captioned that photo, “Aaaaaaannnd we are back on set, the first table read for #NCIS Season 17th.. This season premiere is [fire emoji] (One word.. Ziva).”
While some fans wondered if she’s actually alive — or just a ghost coming back to haunt Gibbs (he’s been haunted by BFF Mike Franks and ex-wife Diane, so it’s not unprecedented) — it sounds like she’s really alive, at least according to an article from TVLine.
“If you perhaps speculated that the ‘jeopardy’ Ziva said Gibbs is in ties into the Canadian drug pipeline Boss discovered in the May finale… well, you’d be wrong. Rather, the threat that compelled her to reveal herself, ‘harkens back to Ziva’s death and why she went into hiding,’ co-showrunner Frank Cardea shared as part of our Fall Preview Q&A,” Matt Webb Mitovich shared in a recent article.
