Vanessa Grimaldi got engaged to her ex-fiancé, Nick Viall, during the Season 21 finale of The Bachelor, but it turns out it wasn’t what she wanted. In fact, the reality star is finally opening up about the experience and what went on behind the scenes.
What Happened Off Camera On The Bachelor
“I didn’t want to get engaged. They didn’t air this,” Grimaldi told her Bachelor alum BFF Taylor Nolan on Nolan’s podcast, Let’s Talk About It With Taylor Nolan, according to Us Weekly.
“I had a conversation with him, and I said, ‘Listen, wouldn’t it be better if we just date outside of the show and then get engaged? ‘Cause that’d be more meaningful. We’d get to know each other,’” revealed Grimaldi.
Nick Viall Weighs In
However, Viall pushed for an engagement, as he thought it was a good sign of their commitment to one another. Not to mention, Viall knew there’d be a backlash if they decided not to get engaged on the show.
“He said, ‘I know to you it could be just a piece of jewelry, but there’s so much meaning towards us leaving engaged because there’s going to be so much attention. There’s going to be so much, like, backlash on us once we’re done with the show,” Grimaldi explained.
Though Grimaldi and Viall ultimately didn’t work out, she was ready to get married and was ready to settle down with someone at the time.
Young But Ready
“I was 28, I think, when I went on the show. I was ready for marriage. I was ready for a family. I was ready to uproot my life, and I did.”
Grimaldi is now happily dating businessman Josh Wolfe and thanks her time on The Bachelor for bringing her to Wolfe.
“I really do believe everything happens for a reason. Listen, if I hadn’t gone on to the show, I don’t know if Josh would have slid into my DMs,” she said.
