Raymond Usher IV, singer, songwriter, actor, businessman, and dancer, is celebrating a very special milestone: his 42nd birthday!
Though born in Dallas, Texas, Usher was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, until his family’s relocation to Atlanta, Georgia. At age 13, he was signed by record executive L.A. Reid to an exclusive contract.
Usher and his vocal abilities were introduced to the public via the single Call Me Mack – a song recorded for the 1993 romantic drama film Poetic Justice. His self-titled debut album was released one year later and became a modest hit.
Usher’s second album, My Way (released in 1994), ensured him fame and fortune. Of the 10 featured singles, three were certified platinum, and the tune Nice & Slow became his first to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Usher’s third effort, 8701 (2001) produced two number-one singles – U Remind Me and U Got It Bad – as well as a top-three single titled U Don’t Have to Call. The album sold a combined total of eight million copies worldwide and netted the singer his first two Grammy Awards.
Subsequent releases have included Confessions (2004), Here I Stand (2008), and Raymond v. Raymond (2010). Cumulatively, Usher has earned nine number-one ranked singles.
Aside from his work as a singer, Usher is also well known for his acting. His first credit was a recurring role on the Brandy Norwood-lead Moesha, which eventually culminated in his first film role: Gabe Santora in the science fiction thriller The Faculty.
Usher’s other work includes The Bold and the Beautiful – where he played Raymond, a love interest for the character Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz) – and roles in features such as She’s All That, Texas Rangers, In the Mix, Killers, Muppets Most Wanted, and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
In addition to being a businessman and philanthropist, Usher is a father of three. He shares two sons – Usher “Cinco” Raymond V (born November 2007) and Naviyd Ely (born December 2008) – with his first wife, Tameka Foster, and a daughter (born September 24, 2020) with Jenn Goicoechea.
