When Calls the Heart is a form of escapism for Hearties. However, there are times when the drama does reflect real-life events. The show’s star, Jack Wagner, teased a major storyline that could affect the residents of Hope Valley.
Season 13 Shocker
Wagner sat down for an exclusive interview with TV Insider. He teased a “life-changing” event that will affect Hope Valley in the Season 13 premiere. This plot was inspired by real-life events. It seems Wagner was hinting about a possible wildfire that could blow through the small town.

“There’s going to be an event that happens, and I’ll just tease you a little bit, that’s going to be life-changing for everyone, and that’s reminiscent of what’s happened in L.A. recently,” Wagner said. “So that’s going to be the disaster and obstacle that we face this year as a community in Hope Valley, and it starts rather quickly.”
The actor revealed that it will, unfortunately, affect the entire community. This could become the overriding storyline in Season 13. “I don’t think we’ve had one of those for a while where the entire community was threatened, but that looks like the story we’re going to tell and the obstacle we’re going to face this year,” Wagner added.
Will Elizabeth and Nathan Return?
Hearties are also dying to know what will happen with Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Nathan (Kevin McGarry). The beloved couple left with their families in the Season 12 finale. Wagner confirmed they will both return to Hope Valley with their kids in the premiere. But they will learn how to adapt to a new normal.

“They come back in the first episode, and it’s about their return and what life looks like for Little Jack (Hyland Goodrich) and now being [insulin] dependent, and how that’s going to evolve in town,” Wagner explained. “How are we going to upgrade the medical situation, etc.?”
Elizabeth left town with Little Jack to get him the proper medical treatment. Nathan and Allie (Jaeda Lily Miller) followed them shortly after. Fans wondered whether they were leaving Hope Valley for good, but it looks like they will return and will be faced with more obstacles. When Calls the Heart Season 13 premieres in early 2026.
