Grey’s Anatomy has created some epic romances, but it’s also created some pretty terrible ones, too. For every relationship like Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd, there had to be a few clunkers that made every fan cringe and want to cover their eyes.
Whether it’s the lack of chemistry, a cheating heart, or something in between, here are five of the worst Grey’s Anatomy couples of all time.
5. Mark Sloan and Teddy Altman
This relationship wasn’t necessarily terrible, but it wasn’t very good either. Mark was looking for a more serious relationship following a string of hookups, but Teddy was just looking for someone to have fun with. Though they had a nice time together, the connection just felt off and neither one seemed very into it.
4. Alex Karev and Rebecca/Ava
These two met after that terrible ferry boat accident in Season 3, but like the other relationships on this list, their romance was doomed from the start.
First of all, Rebecca/Ava/Jane Doe didn’t even know her real identity, which isn’t a great foundation for a relationship. Not to mention, Alex spent most of their time together just taking care of her and trying to keep her alive. None of it added up to success.
3. Callie Torres and George O’Malley
This relationship was all sorts of bad. They decided to get married right after George’s dad passed away, so they weren’t really in the best headspace. Then, Callie tried so hard to get George to love her and be happy, but he just wasn’t interested. George then decided to cheat on Callie with Izzie, and the rest spiraled down from there.
2. Arizona Robbins and Eliza Minnick
Besides Callie, Arizona never really had the best taste in women, and this relationship was no exception. First off, Eliza was not a good character. Second, they had zero chemistry. It was a happy day for fans when Eliza decided to leave the hospital for good.
1. Izzie Stevens and George O’Malley
Why couldn’t they have just stayed friends?! George and Izzie had such a wonderful friendship, but they had to go and ruin it once they decided to sleep together. Not only did they not have any chemistry, but their hookup also wound up ending a marriage (George’s marriage, to be exact). Bad idea all around.
