The Conners, or at least the actors and actresses who portray members of the functioning but dysfunctional family, are back in front of the cameras and knee-deep in production on what will be the third season of the much-beloved comedy. While story details are currently scarce, we’ve curated our Top Five Burning Questions that must (surely) be addressed, at some point, during the upcoming 19-episode run.
By the time Season 2 drew to a close, Dan (John Goodman) and Louise (Katey Sagal) were very much a couple. Heck, they even shared their less than appealing nightly rituals with one another! But while fans were thrilled to see Dan take another chance on love, they may be saying goodbye to Louise sooner rather than later.
Earlier this month, Rebel – an Erin Brockovich-inspired pilot featuring Sagal as a blue-collar legal advocate – was ordered to series at ABC…and it’s a development that might result in the actress forfeiting her role on The Conners.
Luckily, there’s hope. Since both programs will air on the same network, it’s possible that Sagal will be able to do double duty – especially since Louise is a supporting character rather than a lead. But only time will tell.
Last year, much was made about David’s (Johnny Galecki) decision to move back to Lanford and reingratiate himself into the lives of the children he shares with Darlene (Sara Gilbert). However, Galecki’s work on the final season of The Big Bang Theory precluded him from appearing in more than two episodes.
But now that the former Thursday night staple is no longer in production, will this result in more airtime for Darlene’s well-meaning but commitment-shy ex?
And speaking of Darlene… is there anyone else out there under the impression that perhaps the little curly-haired She-Devil isn’t anywhere near worthy of the love lavished upon her by Ben (Jay R. Ferguson), the latest man to fall for her particular brand of crazy?
As you may recall, Ben is the affable, newspaperman that Darlene spent the majority of last season lying to, cheating on, and breaking down both emotionally and mentally. And now that Ferguson has been elevated from recurring player to contract star, it seems that the abuse will continue… but should it?
Try as she might – and boy does she ever try – Majorie “Jackie” Harris (Laurie Metcalf) just can’t find a decent man. She’s dated momma’s boys, neurotics, users, and abusers and the truth of the matter is that Jackie deserves better. Might Season 3 offer her the chance to finally involve herself with a gentleman who’s actually worthy of her love?
No, no, not The Grateful Dead’s lead guitarist. We’re talking about the youngest of Dan and Roseanne’s four children – the one born during the seventh season of The Conners progenitor program Roseanne.
Last we heard, he was on a fishing boat somewhere in Alaska – and that news was delivered in the pilot episode way back in 2018. Since then, there has been no mention of the character… is he even aware of the fact that his mother passed away? This is a character with massive amounts of potential that writers of the upcoming season should mine. The Conners will air on Wednesdays on ABC.
