There was a time not so long ago when grandiose melodramatic programs ruled over primetime television and now ABC’s newest primetime offering, Grand Hotel, continues that tradition. Viewers get a front row seat to all the sex and sin going on inside a beachfront mega hotel called the Rivera Grand.
Here are the five OMG moments from Grand Hotel’s first episode.
1. Gone With The Wind
As a category 4 hurricane whips around, line cook Sky Garibaldi (Arielle Kebbel) – fresh off a confrontation with steely-eyed glamor puss Gigi Mendoza (Roselyn Sanchez) – finds herself stalked through the hotels’ halls. Desperate to escape, she exits out into the storm. Suddenly struck from behind with a baseball bat, she’s dragged back inside.
2. Sold Out
A month later, Alicia Mendoza (Denyse Tontz), daughter of and heir apparent to Rivera Grand owner Santiago Mendoza (Demian Bichir) returned home with her brand new business degree. So when her step-sister’s new fiancé announces that Santiago is selling the hotel to his family, Alicia feels completely betrayed by her father.

3. A Friendly Ear and a Shocking Discovery
A misunderstanding in the swimming pool leads to a surprising encounter between new waiter Danny (Lincoln Younes) and Alicia. Chatting gives Alicia a brilliant idea to save her beloved hotel. She goes to see VIP pop star El Rey’s (Jencarlos Canela) and finds her soon-to-be-married step-sister Carolina (Feliz Ramirez) inside the bedroom! D’oh!
4. Wedding Day Surprise
Despite some last minute machinations by scheming momma Gigi, Alicia is able to reveal Carolina’s tryst to her fiancé Byron (Ken Kirby), who not only shamed his bride-to-be during their vows but started a brawl with both El Ray and Santiago. Danny stopped things before it got out of hand, earning him the respect of papa Mendoza.
5. Secrets and Confessions
A guilty Santiago told Alicia he needed to sell because he owes very shady people (that “right-hand man” Mateo [Shalim Ortiz] works for). Mateo knocked up a maid, who ended up blaming Javi (Bryan Craig) since he’s such a slut and wouldn’t realize they didn’t have sex. Danny was revealed to be Sky’s brother looking for payback!
